Overview Of The 2017 Knicks Summer League Roster

The New York Knicks will begin play at the Orlando Pro Summer League on Saturday, July 1. Here is a brief look at the players who will be playing for them.

 

 

Jamel Artis – SF

Age: 24

Height: 6-7  Weight: 213

Artis spent four years at Pittsburgh, averaging 18.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game last season. He connected on 39.2% of his threes (74-189) in his senior season.

 

Canyon Barry – SG

Age: 23

Height: 6-6  Weight: 215

Many may have heard of Canyon’s father, Basketball Hall Of Famer, Rick Barry. Also much like his father, Canyon shoots underhanded free-throws and shot 88.3% from the charity stripe last season with Florida. He averaged 11.4 points per game last season after he transferred from College of Charleston where he spent his first three college seasons.

Damyean Dotson – SG

Age: 23

Height: 6-6  Weight: 205

Dotson was selected in the second round (44th overall selection by the Knicks in last week’s draft. He was kicked off of Oregon’s basketball team after two years after sexual assault allegations, although he was never charged. He spent the last two seasons with Houston, and averaged 17.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while shooting 44.1% from downtown.

 

Nigel Hayes – SF

Age: 22

Height: 6-8  Weight: 254

The wide-bodied Hayes went undrafted in last week’s draft after spending four years at Wisconsin. After struggling mightily shooting just 36.8% from the field in his junior season, he improved it to 45.7% as a senior. Last season, he averaged 14.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

 

Ognjen Jaramez – PG

Age: 21

Height: 6-4  Weight: 181

Jaramez was drafted by the Knicks in the second round (58th overall selection) in last week’s draft. He has played professionally in Serbia since 2013, playing for Mega Leks. He was named MVP of the Adidas Eurocamp 2017, and averaged 14.5 points and 3.7 assists per game last season for Mega Leks.

 

Dominique Jones – SG

Age: 28

Height: 6-4  Weight: 215

Jones spent his collegiate career at South Florida from 2007-10, and was drafted 25th overall by the Grizzlies (subsequently traded to the Mavericks) in 2010. He played in 80 games over the next three seasons for Dallas, last appearing in the NBA in the 2012-13 season and has career per game averages of 3.1 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

 

Luke Kornet – PF

Age: 21

Height: 7-1  Weight: 250

Kornet finished up four years at Vanderbilt last season, where he was named First Team All-SEC in 2017 and a member of the SEC All-Defensive Team as a junior and senior. Last season, he posted per game averages of 13.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks. His father Frank played 89 career NBA games with the Bucks.

 

Louis Labeyrie – PF

Age: 25

Height: 6-10  Weight: 200

Labeyrie was drafted in the second round (57th overall selection) by the Pacers in 2014, who traded his draft rights to the Knicks shortly after. This will be his third straight year participating in the Summer League for the Knicks, and he averaged six points and 5.2 rebounds in five games in 2016. He has played for Paris-Levallois in France for the past five seasons, and averaged 9.9 points and 8.6 rebounds in 29 games last season.

 

Frank Ntilikina – PG

Age: 18

Height: 6-5  Weight: 190

Ntilikina was taken with the eighth overall selection by the Knicks in last week’s draft. He has spent the past two seasons playing for SIG Strasbourg in France. Last season in 18.2 minutes per game, he averaged 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. He will turn 19 on July 28.

 

Marshall Plumlee – C

Age: 24

Height: 7-0  Weight: 250

Plumlee went undrafted after four years at Duke at last year’s draft, but showed the Knicks enough for him to make their roster to begin the season. He split time with the main club and their D-League affiliate (now G-League), appearing in 21 games with New York where he averaged 1.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game.

Chasson Randle – PG

Age: 24

Height: 6-2  Weight: 185

Randle played for Stanford from 2011-15, where he averaged 16.5 points per game in his collegiate career (19.6 as a senior). After going undrafted, he played in Czech Republic for a year. He started 2016 with the Westchester Knicks, and signed a 10-day contract with the 76ers in late July. He played eight games for them before being released the following month. He signed with the Knicks a few days later, and played in 18 games for them averaging 5.3 points and 1.6 assists in 12.5 minutes per game.

 

Xavier Rathan-Mayes – SG

Age: 23

Height: 6-4  Weight: 208

Rathan-Mayes entered his name into the NBA Draft after three seasons at Florida State. He went undrafted after a junior season that saw him average 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
