Machado, Stanton Named AL And NL Players Of The Month For August

Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles, and Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins were named the American and National Leaue Players of the Month respectively for August.

The 25-year-old Machado appeared in 29 games for Baltimore in August, in which the team went 17-12. In 132 plate appearances, he batted .341 with 12 home runs, six doubles, a triple, three stolen bases, 35 RBI’s and 23 runs. He had multi-hit games in nearly half of his August appearances (14 of 29).

It was a historic month for the 27-year-old Stanton, who tied the major league record with 18 home runs in the month of August (with Rudy York, 1937). Just like Machado, he played in 29 games with Miami going 17-12. Along with his 18 home runs in the month, he batted .349 in 127 plate appearances with six doubles, a stolen base, 37 RBI’s, and 28 runs. He hit a home run in six consecutive games from August 10-15.

It is the second time that Machado has been named AL Player of the Month, and the third time Stanton has earned NL Player of the Month.
